Two of these are one time setups that catch people out.
For the phone
- iOS 13 or newer, or Android 8 or newer.
- A USB cable you trust.
- The phone unlocked, with Trust This Computer confirmed.
- On Android: USB debugging on.
Setting up Android in five steps
Needed once per phone.
Open Settings, tap Build number seven times.
Turn USB debugging on.
Connect the cable and choose File Transfer or MTP.
Accept the RSA fingerprint prompt.
Run USB and driver diagnostics to confirm.
If a device is not detected
- Check the cable first.
- Unlock the phone and accept Trust This Computer.
- On Android, confirm USB debugging is on.
- Run the built in diagnostics.
- Try a port on the machine itself.
